สถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ นำของไปบริจาคแก่ผู้ประสบภัยโคลนปนเปื้อนสารพิษถล่มในฮังการี

เมื่อวันที่ 7 ตุลาคม 2553  นายพฤทธิพงษ์ ปุณฑริโกบล อุปทูตฯ รักษาการ และเจ้าหน้าที่สถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงบูดาเปสต์ นำเครื่องอุปโภคบริโภคและสิ่งของที่จำเป็น อาทิ น้ำดื่ม  ข้าวสาร  อาหารกระป๋อง  รองเท้าบูท  ถุงมือยาง  ผ้าปิดปาก  ผ้าห่ม  และน้ำยาทำความสะอาด จำนวน 1 คันรถตู้ ไปบริจาคให้แก่ผู้ประสบภัยที่เมืองเดเวนแชร์ และโคลอนตาร์ ซึ่งเป็นสองเมืองที่ได้รับความเสียหายมากที่สุดจากเหตุการณ์โคลนปนเปื้อนสารพิษจากบ่อเก็บของโรงงานผลิตอะลูมิเนียม MAL Zrt. ไหลถล่มพื้นที่ 7 เมือง ในมณฑลเวสเปรมทางภาคตะวันตกของฮังการี  เมื่อวันที่ 4 ตุลาคม 2553 ทำให้มีผู้เสียชีวิต4 ราย  สูญหาย 3 ราย บาดเจ็บ 123 ราย และมีบ้านเรือนเสียหายกว่า 300 หลัง ส่งผลกระทบต่อประชากรกว่า 7,000 คน ในจำนวนนี้เกือบ 400 คนไม่มีที่อยู่ นับเป็นอุบัติเหตุทางอุตสาหกรรมที่ร้ายแรงที่สุดของฮังการี

ในโอกาสนี้ อุปทูตฯ รักษาการ ได้กล่าวกับผู้แทนของนายกเทศมนตรีเมืองเดแวนแชร์ และเจ้าหน้าที่สภากาชาดประจำเมืองโคลอนตาร์ แสดงความเสียใจในนามของสถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ และแสดงความยินดีที่ได้มีโอกาสเดินทางมา มอบของบริจาคด้วยตนเอง แม้ว่าของที่นำมาจะมีจำนวนไม่มากแต่ก็ขอให้ทราบว่ายังมีมิตรชาวไทยที่มีความเป็นห่วงและอยากช่วยเหลือชาวบ้านที่ประสบภัยเท่าที่จะสามารถทำได้ โดยฝ่ายผู้รับได้แสดงความขอบคุณด้วยความจริงใจ

ทั้งนี้ เมืองเดเวนแชร์เป็นเมืองขนาดกลาง มีประชากรประมาณ 5 พันคน มีบ้านเรือนที่โดนผลกระทบจากเหตุการณ์นี้ จำนวน 244 หลังคาเรือน ชาวเมืองส่วนใหญ่ยังพักอาศัยในเมืองในบ้านพักของตัวเองหรือของญาติพี่น้อง ส่วนพวกที่บ้านพักเสียหาย ได้ย้ายเข้าไปอยู่ในสถานที่พักพิงชั่วคราวที่ทางเมืองได้จัดให้ อาทิ โรงเรียน และอาคารของราชการ ส่วนเมืองโคลอนตาร์ เป็นเมืองขนาดเล็ก มีประชากรประมาณ 800 คน มีบ้านเรือนที่ได้รับความเสียหาย 40 หลังคาเรือน สภาพโดยทั่วไปเสียหายอย่างหนัก เนื่องจากเป็นเมืองที่ใกล้กับจุดเกิดเหตุมากที่สุดและมีแม่น้ำมาร์ซาล (ซึ่งนำโคลนจากโรงงานมา) ไหลผ่าน สะพานและทางรถไฟถูกทำลายโดยคลื่นโคลนที่สูงถึงประมาณ 2 เมตร ชาวบ้านส่วนใหญ่ถูกย้ายออกนอกพื้นที่แล้ว ที่เหลือเป็นเจ้าหน้าที่ที่ต้องปฏิบัติหน้าที่ในพื้นที่ อาทิ  ทหาร  ตำรวจ  เจ้าหน้าที่บรรเทาสาธารณภัย และผู้สื่อข่าว

 

The Royal Thai Embassy donated necessary items to victims of the toxic sludge disaster in Hungary

On 7 October 2010, Mr. Pruthipong Poonthrigobol, Charge d’ affaires a.i. and accompanying staff of the Royal Thai Embassy in Budapest took a van-full of consumables and necessary items such as bottled drinking water, rice, canned food, rubber boots, rubber gloves, face masks, blankets and detergents as donation to victims of the Hungarian toxic sludge disaster in Devecser and Kolontar. These are the two towns worst hit by the toxic red sludge that spilled from the reservoir of an Alumina factory, MAL Zrt., and flooded 7 towns in Veszprem County in Western Hungary which caused 4 dead, 3 missing, 123 injured and damaged 300 houses with over 7,000 people affected, 400 of which were rendered homeless, making it the worst industrial accident in Hungary.

In this connection, the Charge d’ affaires a.i. of the Thai Embassy expressed to representative of the Mayor’s Office of Devecser and representative of the Hungarian Red Cross in Kolontar his sincere condolences on behalf of the Royal Thai Embassy and appreciation for being able to visit the affected towns by himself on this occasion, although the Embassy’s donation is of limited quantity but it reflected genuine concerns and willingness of the Thai friends to provide whatever help we could. The donation was warmly received by representatives of both towns.

The toxic sludge flood had destroyed 244 houses in Devecser, a medium-size town of about 5,000 inhabitants. Most of Devecser’s residents are still living in the towns either in their own houses or with their relatives. Those whose houses are destroyed and not livable have been moved to temporary government’s shelters such as schools or various public buildings. Kolontar, on the contrary, is a small village of about 800 inhabitants. It is severely damaged by the flood due to its close proximity to the accident site and the location of River Marcal (which carried the mud from the factory to the village) that runs through the village. About 40 houses, a bridge as well as railway have been destroyed by the flood of sludge as tall as 2 meters high. Most of the village’s residents have already been evacuated out of the disaster areas, most of those remaining are officers with on-site duties such as soldiers, police, disaster-management officers, and journalists.
