On Wednesday 19 November 2025, H.E. Mr. Phrommes Bhaholpolbhayuhasena, Ambassador of Thailand to Hungary, presided over the inauguration ceremony of the new chancery of the Royal Thai Embassy in Budapest. The ceremony was honoured by the attendance of H.E. Mr. Ádám Stifter, Deputy State Secretary for Development of Eastern Relations, as the guest of honour. Also in attendance were H.E. Mr. István Jakab, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary, Ambassadors, diplomatic corps, as well as members of the press.

In the inauguration speech, H.E. Mr. Phrommes Bhaholpolbhayuhasena, Ambassador of Thailand to Hungary, recalled the history of Thai-Hungarian relations that date back to 1869 during the period of the Kingdom of Siam and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The visit of King Rama V to Hungary in 1897 then provided a solid foundation for the Thai-Hungarian friendship. The modern Thai-Hungarian relations started with the visit to Hungary of General Prem Tinasulanonda, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand in 1988, leading the opening of the Royal Thai Embassy in Budapest. The move from the old chancery to the new one that is closer to the city center signifies the deepening of Thai-Hungarian relations, and reflects the increasing cooperation between the two countries.

H.E. Mr. Ádám Stifter, Deputy State Secretary for Development of Eastern Relations as the guest of honour, gave an inaugural remark, stating the importance of Thailand in Hungary’s Eastern Opening policy, the frequent exchanges of visit which is projected to continue, and the scope of fruitful Thai-Hungarian cooperation in the fields of water resource management, agriculture, health, education, scholarship exchanges, tourism exchanges, and people-to-people relations.

The Royal Thai Embassy also exhibited photos of the visit to Hungary by members of the Thai royal family, as well as showed a compilation of photographs showing high-level visits between Thailand and Hungary.

The new chancery of the Royal Thai Embassy is located at 49 Orbánhegyi út, 1126 Budapest, with the opening times of Monday to Friday between 09.00 hrs. and 17.00 hrs.
