On 16 May 2016, The Thai Trade Center and the Royal Thai Embassy in Budapest organized the first Thai Dessert Challenge Competition in Budapest, Hungary. Contestants attempted to make the best-looking “Lookchup”, a Thai dessert which resembles marzipan.

100 students from the Gardonyi Geza Altalanos Iskola primary school in Budapest were invited to participate in the competition, held on board a boat on the Danube. The contestants were asked to mold lookchups in the shapes of fruits that could be found in Thailand such as mangoes, oranges, rose apples and lychees. A Thai chef first demonstrated the correct way to mold a lookchup and gave advice to each team during the competition.

The competition is the first of three activities under a project to promote Thai cooking and culture organized by the Thai Trade Center in 2017.
