On 16 December 2015, H.E. Mrs.Kanthong Unakul, Ambassador of Thailand to Croatia with residence in Budapest visited the Port of Rijeka. She was warmly received by Mr. Goran Lajnert, Assistant Executive Director of Rijeka Port Authority, Mr. Alessandro Becce, Chief Executive Officer of Adriatic Gate Container Terminal and Mr. Bruno Kirincic, Assistant Commercial Manager of Luka Rijeka d.d.

Representatives of Rijeka Port gave a briefing on the capacity of the port which has a number of advantages such as allowing up to 6-7 days shorter travel time from the Far East to Central Europe compared to other ports in Western Europe, shorter period of transit at the port and being a good alternative route to North Sea and Baltic Sea which, since 1 January 2015, has become Sulphur Emission Control Area (SECA) under the 1997 Marine Pollution Control Protocol.
