On 28 April 2026, on the occasion of the Songkran Festival period (Thai New Year), the Royal Thai Embassy in Budapest, in collaboration with Burapha Group, organized an event to promote Thai culture at the Austrian School Budapest (Budapesti Osztrák Iskola). H.E. Mr. Phrommes Bhaholpolbhayuhasena, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Hungary, along with officials and staff of the Royal Thai Embassy, as well as their family members, attended the event.

On this occasion, H.E. Mr. Phrommes Bhaholpolbhayuhasena, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Hungary, delivered the opening remarks, focusing on the importance of Songkran Festival and the festival’s traditional and contemporary celebration. After that, Mrs. Margot Wieser, School Director, delivered welcoming remarks, and officials of the Royal Thai Embassy gave a further presentation on the significance of Songkran Day and Thai New Year.

The event featured traditional Songkran-theme Thai dances and performances of Thai songs, as well as the demonstration of the pouring of water onto a Buddha statue. Additionally, four workshops were organized, including traditional Thai fish weaving (Pla Tapian), coin-folding for almsgiving, Thai paper floral decoration (Phuang Mahot) making, and umbrella painting (Bo Sang umbrella). Students joining the event could also sample Pad Thai, prepared by the chef of the Ambassador’s Residence.

The event attracted over 80 students and school staff, serving as a good opportunity to promote Thai culture and Songkran festival to the international community.
